At home across many industries, she is thrilled to be invited to perform, direct, choreograph, consult, mentor, guide, or direct companies through challenging transitions, offering her unique gifts and talents according to the specifications at hand.

And what do I say?
I believe it is my obligation to find, in every situation, what may not be seen on the surface. I look not for what is, but what could be- not only in the project or event, but in the people I work with, and, inevitably serve, to help make all of us a little better by the time I depart. The purpose of our time here is to make a difference in people’s lives, for the better, and we can do that in the smallest of ways, which add up to one monumental change across time. We can all be a light for someone, even in our darkest hour. Oh yeah, and I usually find a way to laugh through the worst of things because, hey, we’ve all been there…
About Me
I am Colette (with one ‘L’)
Born in New Orleans (oh, my heart!), I grew up with my mother and my grandfather in Knoxville, TN. On stage as a soloist at the age of five, I began dancing at 2 years old, competing as a clogger at age 8, and expanded my dancing repertoire across the gamut throughout high school until I was training in over 12 disciplines by college. I received multiple scholarships to study vocal performance at Oberlin College Conservatory, and continued on scholarship at Manhattan School of Music, where I received my masters degree. While there, I made my Carnegie Hall debut with Opera Orchestra New York and went on to sing for Maya Angelou, working with George Faison at his Firehouse Theatre in Harlem. I expanded my ventures as a voice teacher and choreographer, but after being hit by a taxi as a pedestrian (yes, there were severe injuries), I moved to Asheville, NC.
While in Asheville, I performed with Asheville Lyric Opera and the Hendersonville Symphony while learning more about other industries. Moving back up to the North East, I continued performing and began working as a director and choreographer in high schools. Eventually, I co-founded American Monarch Theatre. During this time I worked as casting director and Artist Manager for a company that served the higher education industry, in addition to serving as Artistic Director for my own 501(c)3 non-profit.
Though a busy and fulfilling time of my life, COVID hit soon after. I was diagnosed with COVID-19 in March of 2020 and was subsequently hospitalized 5 times in direct relation to it. On oxygen for over a year and a half, it was a long road, and it completely changed my life and the way I looked at the world, making me more grateful, open, and curious about the changes ahead.
Since then, I have moved forward, continuing to audition and grateful to even be singing and able to dance and move. I have cultivated a greater sense of connectedness and empathy that empowers and informs all the work I do. I experienced my first time in a bikini on stage with Asbury Park Theatre Company and choreographed at my alma mater for friend and dearly respected professor’s final show, Candide. It is an honor to have you join my journey, even in the smallest way by reading about my life, and the path that lies ahead I am sure will be no less filled with love, light, and lots of unexpected change!
